Carbon Monoxide poisoning
Be aware, carbon monoxide is odourless and tasteless and causes a significant number of domestic deaths every year.
It is produced by inefficient combustion of fossil fuels. All gas appliances should be checked annually as a minimum standard.
The gas company will assess gas appliances free of charge for safety.
Landlords are legally obliged to ensure gas appliances are tested and maintained.
The symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are vague and include headaches, nausea, lethargy and clouding of consciousness.
If you suspect a gas appliance is faulty:
- Turn it off
- Open the windows and doors
- Get the appliance checked

If you have gas applicances in your property then you may wish to consider fitting a carbon monoxide detector. They can be purchased from most Do It Yourself stores, and some hiogh street stores such as Argos and Woolworths.
